The Lucknow Municipal Corporation has decided to provide employment opportunities to beggars and put an end to beggary in the city. The decision came after the government has decided to lift India’s economy and improve the standards of living.
Beggary has become common in India, and to cope with the issue – the Lucknow Municipal Corporation has announced job opportunities, free shelter, and food for the beggars. Under this newly launched scheme, beggars will be given employment based on their qualification levels. Free food, shelter, and education will be provided to street children and handicapped beggars.
“Beggars will be provided jobs on the basis of their education skills. We are also going to attempt to rehabilitate the road kids,” said Indra Mani Tripathi (a Lucknow Municipal Corporation officer). Tripathi further added that the LMC will put handicapped and homeless beggars to shelter homes, while the able-bodied ones will be assigned jobs based on their qualifications.
The Lucknow Municipal Corporation has started carrying out a survey in the city to find out the details of beggars and homeless people. The complete report would be handed over to the senior department, who will work to arrange jobs and shelter facility for the beggars.
This initiative has been carried out by LMC after the orders of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath who wants to rehabilitate beggars by providing them sustenance, shelter, and fine living standards.
The duties given to the beggars will include jobs of an office boy, clerk, garbage collector, monthly garbage fee collector, and daily sanitation work. The fate of each beggar will be decided on his qualification.
The LMC has started collecting details of all the beggars in the city. Till now, there’s only a small portion of beggars who have come forward to register themselves in this drive. But the LMC is hopeful that with the passage of time more and more beggars will enroll in the drive and the city would become free of beggary.
This is indeed a great move by the Lucknow government. This will not only put an end to beggary, but also allow beggars to get food and shelter, and earn a legitimate income.
